Although some of our children may be blind or visually impaired and come from low-income areas, we can give them the head start they need by equipping them with the tools they require to be successful in school. We will also teach the children Braille as well as alpha numeric characters. This way, the sighted children will learn to acquire information through the tactile sense. The children who are blind or visually impaired will also learn alpha numeric text. This way, reading for all of the children will truly become a multi-sensory experience! Our preschool program is intended to augment and enhance the learning experiences of the children in our Birth-to-Three Program.
Established in 1974, The Birth-to-Three Family Intervention Program (the Birth-to-Three Program) provides in-home developmental therapy to blind and visually impaired infants and toddlers. We are the only program of its kind in the Chicagoland area specifically serving children with visual impairments.) As the children age out of the Birth-to-Three Program, there will now be a place for them to go: our preschool program, where they will now be learning alongside sighted children.
Up until now, there is no preschool like this currently in existence in the Midwest.
