Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, we develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.
Nepal has experienced recent devastation and Room to Read responded by setting up the Nepal Education Fund. Our team is assessing the earthquake damage in our program communities and providing support where it is needed most. Donations to our Nepal Education Fund will allow us to quickly respond to the efforts that need our immediate support and attention.
Operations in our program countries are run entirely by local staff who are familiar with the local challenges, customs and languages.
Our teams in-country, along with their local country director, adapt Room to Read’s programs to suit the local context so they can have the greatest possible effect.
We invest our resources locally, including printing all of our local-language books in countries where we work. This helps boost local economies and keeps costs low.
Each community that benefits from Room to Read’s support is challenged to contribute to the project’s long-term success by donating land, funds or labor.
